In English, the word prayer comes from the latin word precarius, meaning ‘obtained by humble request’. Naturally, the modern word ‘prayer’ has a near identical meaning, a humble or solemn request.
In Arabic, words are often defined by their letters (which form roots). The word for prayer is ‘salah’, but interestingly enough, the root doesn’t mean to ask, request, or beseech. The word for prayer, in Arabic, stems from the root that means - a connection.
